Thursday night Gateway resident George Huskamp came before the board of supervisors to ask some questions about the Lee County Sheriff's detail. He said he hadn't noticed much of the radar-toting deputies on Gateway Boulevard that we had seen so much of in the past.
Huskamp also went on to say that he once saw a deputy go to 7-11 and get a doughnut or something (maybe it was a cup of coffee) and then go behind a building and hang out. Huskamp wanted to know if the deputy was doing this on our dime being that we pay the Sheriff's department over $100,000 a year. Nielson in his usual condescending tone told Huskamp not to jump to conclusions. He then went on to tell a similar story about a deputy.
Nielson said, while he was watching a soccer game, a deputy went over to the school on Griffin, went behind the school and just sat their in his car. FOR 15 MINUTES! Nielson quickly shifted into his Sherlock Holmes cape and went "on duty". Being the highly motivated, get-things-done, public official that he is he took quick action. He called over to the guard house at the entrance to Gateway Greens where the deputy's "log in" when they are on duty. The person on duty told El Presidente, in English I'm guessing, that he had no information of that deputy on duty.
So there, Mr. Huskamp, let that be a lesson to you. Do not jump to conclusions. It could be a Dad just watching a soccer game. It could be a hungry deputy having a doughnut after a hard day wrestling hardened criminals. Only one problem with Bob's little bedtime story. According to Operations Manager Bill Knight the deputies have been logging in at the G.S.D. building for the past two years, not the guard house. Tonto, that's your boy. What's up with that? You hung him out to dry.
That's our leader. Always on top of the issues. Another reason you should "run on your record" this November Booby. You are in the know baby!
