It was expected to be a major item for discussion last night. However, Wetland 47 has been delayed again. Another deadline will be missed and this time the entire blame can be placed at the feet of your Board of Supervisors.
This issue could be considered the biggest issue the district faces right now. Top priority is perhaps the proper terminology, having already squandered over $100,000. To one Supervisor her own H.O.A is more important than the community as a whole.
As the issue was being discussed, Supervisor Margaret Fineberg had to leave because she had an H.O.A. meeting in Stoneybrook. Yup. H.O.A. politics is a bigger priority than the $100,000 to $160,000 all Gateway residents have spent and will spend on Wetland 47.
Once Fineberg left, the discussion on Wetland 47 had to end because the Supervisors did not have a quorum. Why did they not have a quorum? Because Bob Nielson is a conflict of interest on this issue. And, Ed Sichel was out of town on the telephone. Another delay means the district will have to ask SFWMD for another extension. In addition to missing deadlines with the state, the district and Country Club have still not come to an agreement on how to resolve the issue.
I had been critical of the Gateway Golf and Country Club for laughing at the district in a previous story. I take that all back now. Laugh away. The rest of us are.
