Before their regularly scheduled board meeting, the Gateway Services District Board of Supervisors held a closed-to-the-public meeting to discuss their upcoming fight with the two Gateway Charter Schools. No information about the meeting has been released other than this "The closed door session recording/mins on charter discussions will be made public after suit is resolved".
I guess it's safe to conclude that the Supervisors are moving forward with some sort of fight with the Charter schools otherwise there would be no suit to resolve? And with that more attorney fees. We will try to bring you more information.
The Charter schools are asking for tens of thousands of dollars to be refunded for assessments the schools it should never have been billed for. Charter is claiming a 2007 change in law by the Florida Legislature negates them from having to pay any special assessments. Supervisors need to decide whether they will fight the schools - meaning more attorney fees - or pay back the schools.
