This is certainly not a horrible thing. When the G.S.D. board cancels 2 meetings in a row, it means 2 things to me. The first is that no damage can be done to the community for at least 2 more weeks. The second is that it becomes more and more obvious that the board meets too many times to begin with. Gateway will survive for the next two weeks, even though the board is not having a meeting.
I have always said the the G.S.D. is an H.O.A. on steroids and has no real reason to meet two times per month, which is more than some boards meet that have much more responsibility, a larger organization and many more taxpayers to deal with. When I was covering County Government in New York, they only met once a month. It's because elected officials believe people cannot function without them. We collected their money, we must find ways to spend it.
Yesterday, after paying for a meeting advertisement in the News-Press of course, the board canceled tonight's meeting with this confusing e-mail: "Please note that it has been brought to our attention that we will not have three members present to conduct general business at our special meeting at 4:30p nor the regular meeting at 5:30p. We would ask that those members that can attend be present for the purpose of continuing to establish a quorum to conduct business as this is acceptable for the purposes of continuing alone. I will be in attendance for this purpose and no other professional staff members will be required. We will be recommending that the meetings are continued in session to Thursday, April 29th at the same respective times. Once the date and time is selected, notice will be provided via postings, website etc".
The part I highlighted in red is the confusing part to me, but, of course, I'm just a dumb weightlifter. They are meeting, not meeting, there is no quorum, they're meeting to continue until the next meeting. They can meet to conduct "business" but not "general business". Blah Blah Blah.
Not only that smoke bomb up above, but if you go to the G.S.D. website this morning you'll see the following: The Board of Supervisors Meeting will begin at 4:30pm on April 15, 2010 to discuss the Attorney for Utility Connection fees. And, the residents still have not received an e-mail blast about the meeting tonight. The communication between the G.S.D. and the residents has come so far (he says sarcastically) since the crowning of El Presidente. It's just not a priority for them.
I'm thinking this is Beetle Bob's attempt to escape and evade the residents. Confuse, avoid, befuddle, frustrate thy enemy. His motto "I never want to see the whites of their eyes". My God people, How Did We Get Here? It's a tactic we deployed in the special forces back in Nam. Well, I was never really in the special forces, but if I was, I'm sure this would be the tactic. Maybe I read it in a book somewhere.
In any event I'm absolutely confident that there is probably not going to be a meeting today at 4:30.
