The never ending Wetland story is back on the agenda for this week. As Bob Nielson's Board of Supervisors continues to work on the project, the rising cost is now nearly $100,000. If you are new to the Gateway Gazette or need a reminder, this is the story that tops all stories about how our money is wasted by the local government entity known as Bob Nielson's Board of Supervisors.
Back on December 7th when I last wrote about the Wetlands the cost to the Gateway taxpayer was $77,000. You can refresh your memory by reading that last update HERE.
This is the story about a small piece of property on the Gateway Golf Course (of which most of us will never play on). The Country Club hired a contractor called Friendly Fire to "work on" two wetlands around the golf course. A Gateway resident, observing the work, notified Lee County. Lee County called the state and the state did not like what was going on. And, today, after months of meetings, finger poiting and the blame game, Gateway residents are out nearly $100,000. We are up to $58,484 in outside engineering fees and $20,000 in attorney fees. The $100,000 does not include a penny of what you will have to spend to fix the wetland the state says the country club violated. The details of the increasing bill can be found in the memo
In addition to all of the above expenses, Friendly Fire Vice President Bill Conrad says he has completed $25,000 worth of work on the wetland at no charge and as you can see by his memo Friendly Fire memo he's a little concerned he may die before the wetland issue is resolved.
