Kids are eating at school during the week then heading home and not receiving the proper nutrition to stay alert and ready to learn, for whatever reason. Utilizing the Blessings in a Backpack program, one house making a donation of $80.00, will support one child every weekend for the entire school year. The kids come back to school Monday fueled, energized and ready to learn. Here is national coverage of Blessings in a Backpack on CBS News.
The Gateway Community has launched an initiative in Lee County along with Blessings in a Backpack Board Members and Gateway resident's Scott and Mary Fischer and Melissa and David Grant. We've set up a competition here in Gateway. Community "Team Leaders" will go around to their neighbors and friends looking for other members of our community interested in supporting the program.
Each team leader will receive packets to hand out to neighbors. The packets include a flyer explaining the one child, one house program and a donation card. Team leader standings will be tracked here on the Gateway Gazette. The team leader that brings in the most contributions will receive one night on a 60+ foot Hatteras cruising the high seas drinking fine wine and munching on delicious food with their significant others and 4 guests. The deadline to become a neighborhood team leader is Friday, May 14th.
Please contact us of you are interested in helping feed the kids in Lee County.

David GrantThe Community of Gateway is teaming up with Blessing in a Backpack to brighten the future of children throughout Lee County. Blessings in a Backpack provides (qualifying) kids with a backpack full of weekend food. Children all over Lee County suffer from hunger on a weekly basis. It's up to all of us to ensure the future leaders of our community get the food they need for success.
