Doragh Chimes in on Wetland
Former GSD Chairman Pete Doragh got a whiff of what the Gateway Golf and Country Club tried to sneak by the current board and he was none too happy. What Doraugh was upset about was this proposal.
Pete Doragh who I like to say is on hiatus from the board, is the former chairman of the board of supervisors. He knows the history of Wetland 47 and 48, probably better than anyone else, and he says it's outrageous that the Country Club is asking the board to pay for anything. "The Country Club went on its own property and did the work". And, apparently they did it wrong, got caught and want the rest of us to pay.
Doragh said "the club has always maintained the property for playability purposes". Translation: so the golfers can see their ball fly through the air, then have easy access to the wetland when it veers violently to the right into the bushes. Doraugh said "the club has maintained those areas for years and years, for the club's purposes, for playability".
What really should happen is for someone from the club, maybe even Ed Tinkle, to stand before the microphone and say I am sorry, I made a mistake and I hope you can once again trust us. Oh wait, that was Tiger's pathetic story and he's sticking to it. You can bet there's no apology coming from the club because they've been claiming they've been doing the community a favor, maintaining the wetlands for years and years. That's when Doragh straightened them out again. Ahhh, the good old days when Pete Doragh was in charge and Bob Nielson sat next to him quietly, like he should, not able to do much damage, but I digress. Pete informed the board that other business owners and even residents have ownership of wetlands and when work is done to the wetlands those residents work with SFWMD to take care of those wetlands. The district does not foot the bill. A bill that to date has cost you and me nearly $100,000 with more to come!
Doragh's final comment: "the club should step forward and accept responsibility". Bravo. Hey 5 board members....that's seems to be pretty good advice.
