He and Gary are the only two that are prepared for each meeting. Fineburg is the least prepared. She couldn't even support one of our members from Stoneybrook. She should do everyone a favor and quit.
ReplyDeleteAMEN TO WHOMEVER YOU ARE!! GREAT IDEA.
ReplyDeleteThe current economy should have the GSCDD / Board of Supervisors focusing on what GSCDD was created to do in the first place - roads / landscaping (Gateway Blvd) / water.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Supervisors are reaching out to the Gateway residents, but the timing needs to be right for certain projects.
If / when the economy picks up and the majority of Gateway residents have discretionary dollars to spend on additional amenities in Gateway, that's when a detailed survey / focus group / town hall meetings / open discussions need to take place.
The Supervisors should consider allowing Pelican Preserve to separate from GSCDD and form their own CDD. I'd like to see all possible routes explored for doing this. A 'can do' attitude is needed here - I'm sure there are contacts at varying stages of the governmental ladder that would be willing to discuss the options. I'm not a fan of an elected Supervisor being from Pelican Preserve and making decisions that they may not be paying for.
Supervisors should consider arranging a long-term planning / advisory / business / strategic committee. There are a lot of residents in the Gateway Community who would be willing to provide their input to the Board of Supervisors - perhaps a different approach to what the 5 Supervisors can think of.
Supervisors should not be allowed to vote at a meeting if they have just been given information related to that vote and haven't had the time to thoroughly digest that info. The Supervisors should be given a package at one meeting so that they have time to read, research, prepare questions, and be willing to have an informed discussion at the next meeting.
Things to think about for the future -
It may be nice to chat about what people would like to have / see in Gateway, but residents need to think about the initial cost / investment, annual maintenance, etc.
Some things sound great, but will people actually use these amenities on a regular basis? Will these amenities be available to Gateway Residents only, or for all Lee County residents? If open to everyone, will there be a usage cost? Will Gateway Residents get a discount to use the amenities? Should there be a Gateway Resident ID card for all residents?
If amenities / facilities are to be considered in the future, and will be open for all Lee County to use, will Lee County fund the project? Have other CDDs done anything similar?
No post recently on the proposed fence around Stoneybrook and the Kangaroo court held last Friday? They schedule the meeting during a big weekend community event and wonder why only those who are in favor of it attend. Is it not a testament to the feeling of safety these hundreds of people have that they would rather participate in games instead of a meeting on the crime preventing fence. They start the meeting by saying they can do whatever they want but decided to hold a meeting to hear from the commoners. The fence covers less than 30% of the community, the rest they are heavily relying on a moat and some dilapidated barb wire fence. Why not build a moat around the whole community and drop a draw bridge?
ReplyDeleteThis from the same group that put up a sign for no golf carts because of one problematic golf cart in the community. And put about signs about no parking or standing at a school bus stop. Apparently our “security” service is a glorified concierge or doorman that can only check IDs and does not provide any protection to our community.
the fence will not prevent crime to any significant degree. like a couple people at the meeting said, they'll hop right over it. 175 grand of homeowners' money will be wasted on this fence. besides, a certain amount of the break ins are done by people who live in stoneybrook, so the fence in these cases is useless. and noone knows that they'll have this amount in the bank "leftover" after year end. the cost of this fence breaks down to 225 per homeowner..ridiculous.
