On a brutally hot course in Cancun Mexican, Gateway resident John Gamba traversed the 70.3 mile swim, bike and run course in enough time to qualify for the Ford Ironman 70.3 Championships this November in Clearwater, FL. Completing the course in 5 hours and 25 minutes, Gamba qualified with less than 13 seconds to spare. Gamba commented that he "knew he was close at mile 13 of the run". He sprinted to the finish, passed two international competitors within 100 feet of the finish line and learned two hours later that it was good enough to qualify. John's next big race will be Ironman Cozumel in November.
Congratulations, John! Good luck in your next one.
